Symbol for Thermistor
A thermistor is a type of resistor in where it’s resistance may vary with temperature, more significantly than a standard resistor. Thermistor is different than an RTD in where the material used for a thermistor is ceramic or polymer, while RTDs are pure metals.
Two types of thermistor are NTC & PTC and they function opesit from each other.
- NTC thermistors are the standard type of resistor, where the environmental temperature rises, the resistance of the thermistor lowers.
- PTC thermistors are opposite; where the resistance of the thermistor rises with the temperature of it’s environment.
